DE JURE CHAMBERS Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy
De Jure Chambers
Jurisdiction: United Kingdom & European Union Effective Date: 28 April 2025
Version: 1.0
1. Our Commitment to Ethical Innovation
De Jure Chambers is a law firm regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). We are committed to the responsible and ethical integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in legal practice. We utilise secure, compliant AI tools to assist our solicitors and legal professionals with routine legal tasks, helping to enhance efficiency and maintain high standards of service, without compromising our professional obligations. AI is never used to replace legal expertise. All AI-assisted outputs are reviewed by a qualified legal professional before they are relied upon or shared.
2. Permitted Use of AI Tools
AI technologies may be used by De Jure Chambers to assist in legal research and case law retrieval; document summarisation and review (e.g. pleadings, contracts, evidence); drafting assistance for internal use and review; and administrative support functions such as transcription or summarising meeting notes. All AI use is subject to oversight and validation by a regulated legal professional. No AI output is used independently of human judgment.
3. UK and EU Data Protection Compliance
De Jure Chambers processes personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the EU GDPR where applicable. All data used with AI tools is processed lawfully, based on consent, contractual necessity, legal obligation, or legitimate interest. We follow the principles of data minimisation and purpose limitation. AI is not used to make autonomous decisions that affect clients' rights or obligations. All AI-generated content is subject to human review, and clients retain the right to request information on how AI has been applied in their matter.
4. Confidentiality and Security
As a regulated law firm, De Jure Chambers upholds strict confidentiality obligations. AI tools are deployed only where security safeguards meet or exceed industry and regulatory standards. These safeguards include encryption, access control, secure UK/EU-based hosting where feasible, and regular auditing. Personal data is not transferred outside the UK or EU unless appropriate legal safeguards are in place. AI use is monitored to ensure compliance with professional duties under the SRA Code of Conduct.
5. Client Rights and Queries
Clients may request further information regarding the use of AI in their matter, raise objections to its use where applicable, and exercise their data protection rights under the UK or EU GDPR regimes, including the rights of access, rectification, restriction, objection, and erasure.
